I am currently a senior at Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, MD and a biology student intern at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC.

Words of Advice?

Definitely do it. Participating in an AEOP program will widen your horizons career-wise in the field of STEM. Once completing the program, you will have information to better plan your STEM education pathway.

Best Things about the Program?

The best thing about the GEMS program was meeting scientists and researchers. The program also allowed me to have a firsthand view of what the STEM workplace is like.

How Participating in AEOP Inspired You to Advance in the STEM Field?

Participating in GEMS 1, 2 and 3 inspired me to come back and participate as a Near-Peer Mentor and use STEM to inspire more students.

Who is your favorite STEM role model? Why?

My favorite STEM role model at the moment is Dr. Gregory House from the TV show House M.D. Even being a fictional character, Hugh Laurie’s portrayal of the genius diagnostician inspires me to think deeper.

If you could meet one person, living or dead, who would it be?

I would meet Bill Gates because I would want to discuss his plans to help developing countries access quality medical care.

What are your future hopes and dreams?

I plan to earn my bachelor’s in nursing and then commission in the USPHS where I will study to become a physician.
