Tell Us about Yourself

I’m a High School junior, selected for an after-school, year-long sciences seminars spanning topics from bio-mimicry to rocketry.

What AEOP program(s) did you participate in?

High School Apprenticeship Program (HSAP)

Words of Advice?

Go for it! The AEOP experience is invaluable. You will learn and grow, expand on your classroom knowledge and develop skills through hands-on research. Experts will mentor you on material not taught in a typical classroom. I am thankful for this opportunity and highly recommend AEOP programs!

Best Things about the Program?

There are so many ‘best things’ about the apprenticeship! Learning the details of cell structure and processes, advancing my research skills, applying concepts I learned in school in a laboratory setting. Enhancing my public speaking and presentation skills. My mentor, Dr. Shen, had great expertise but also a good sense of humor, which helped us get through the complex material.

How Participating in AEOP Inspired You to Advance in the STEM Field?

AEOP provided hands-on experience in a research lab early in my high school career. This apprenticeship has opened my eyes to the possibilities. The more I learn, the more I see what is possible. I view STEM, particularly science, as a way to find answers and solve problems. The more you learn within and across the branches of science, the more connections you make and the more equipped you are to produce research of value. Your discovery can contribute to solving world problems.
