I am currently a freshman at Marshall University. I am studying biomedical engineering through the Yeager scholarship program. While COVID-19 has led to significant changes in the typical college transition process, I still plan to find opportunities to conduct research focused in my field.

Words of Advice?

Do it! Applying for REAP was one of the best decisions I have ever made, and the application process will prepare you for career opportunities later in life. Don’t be intimidated if you have never done research before; you will meet amazing mentors that will help you along the way.

Best Things about the Program?

The best thing about research was the fact that I was exposed to so many different aspects of science. I was able to conduct actual university-level research while still in high school. Meeting my mentor and everyone that worked in the lab also enhanced my experience and helped me develop lifelong skills that will help me in my further education and career.

How Participating in AEOP Inspired You to Advance in the STEM Field?

Before attending my first year of research through REAP, I had absolutely no idea what field I wanted to go into, or which aspect of STEM to pursue. Had it not been for REAP, I most likely would never have discovered the field of biomedical engineering, which I am now passionate about and am pursuing in university.

If You Could Meet One Person Living or Dead, Who Would You Choose?

I would love to meet Malala Yousafzai. She has accomplished tremendous things for women’s rights at such a young age and is very courageous.

What Are Your Future Hopes and Dreams?

I want to use biomedical engineering to create medical innovations, specifically using different 3D printing methods.
