Words of Advice?

AEOP is an ideal introduction to research. Breaking into academia can be intimidating but AEOP helped me understand the research process and translate my skills to my next lab. Go for it!

Best Things about the Program?

AEOP provided me an important opportunity to spend time in and engage with a high-level neuroscience lab. AEOP at the Medical College of Georgia allowed me to spend time in an academic environment where I could experience the literature, culture, and skills of the field I am interested in.

How Participating in AEOP Inspired You to Advance in the STEM Field?

My time in Dr. Hegde’s lab showed me each part of the research process and gave me transferable skills to my future labs. Learning how to construct and facilitate experiments has helped me elevate my research career.

Who is your favorite STEM role model? Why?

David Attenborough: One of the most important facets of science is its communication. No one has done a better job communicating science to more people!

What are your future hopes and dreams?

To translate everything that I’ve learned about the brain to a career in military medicine.
