Important information for all students applying to the GEMS program this summer! |

There is no deadline for the GEMS application. |

The essay is part of the application and should be submitted online.

|
GEMS sites have variable assignment dates, but the internship awards will likely be assigned yearly in April. Do not be concerned if you have not received your assignment prior to April. |

The application includes an area for a 500 word essay which should be about why the student wants to be in the GEMS program. Please approach this with thought and reflection before you begin your application so you have an idea as to what you would like to write:
- Beginners GEMS applicants are strongly encouraged to write an essay.
- Intermediate GEMS applicants must write a 250-500 word essay to be considered for acceptance.
- Advanced GEMS applicants must write the essay to be considered for acceptance (not available at all locations).

The GEMS application also includes sections that ask the applicant to describe career and academic interests. |

There are several GEMS sessions this summer across the country. The application will ask that you select a first and second preference for location. You will be assigned your first choice ONLY if there is adequate space in that session. |
