All applicants must complete the essay included in the online application. Students entering grades 6-9 in September 2012 are eligible to participate.

The GEMS program at ARL in Adelphi gives students the opportunity to explore new pursuits in Science and Math and expand upon their current interests with unique hands-on laboratory experiences.

ARL-Adelphi GEMS Program Description

GEMS I participants, students entering grades 6-8, will be involved in activities based on the latest cutting-edge research on hydrogen electrolysis, flexible displays, and fuel cell technology, as well as sessions on photovoltaics and generators. Activities and experiments will include building fuel cell cars and crystal radios.

GEMS II participants, entering grades 7-9, will be engaged in a one week rigorous in-depth analysis of cutting-edge research extended from GEMS I.

GEMS I
Week 1: June 25-29
Week 2: July 09-13
Week 4: July 23-27

GEMS II
Week 3: July 16-20
Week 5: July 30-August 3
