All applicants must complete the essay included in the online application. Students entering grades 7-9 in September 2010 are eligible to participate.
The GEMS program at ARL in Adelphi gives middle school students the opportunity to explore new pursuits in Science & Math and expand upon their current interests with unique hands-on laboratory experiences.
2010 GEMS Topics: fuel cells, power generation, electromagnetism, electrolysis and DNA extraction.
ARL-Adelphi GEMS Program Description
GEMS participants will be involved in activities based on the latest cutting-edge research on hydrogen electrolysis, flexible displays, and fuel cell technology, as well as sessions on photovoltaics and generators. Activities and experiments will include building fuel cell cars and crystal radios.
Planned Session Dates
Five one-week sessions will be held during Summer 2010:
Week #1: June 28-July 2, 2010
Week #2: July 12-16, 2010
Week #3: July 19-23, 2010
Week #4: July 26-30, 2010
Week #5: August 2-6, 2010
